THE DICTATOR

Has the USA become a dictatorship ?

This question is no joke, judging from the unacceptable behaviour of the new president over the last two days : menacing, threatening, warning Congress that if Senators do not pass in stimulus plan, they will be held responsible for a disaster.

Just a few hours, ago, an impatient  Obama told a squabbling Congress today that it would be "inexcusable and irresponsible" to delay passage of his economic stimulus bill and said the loss of nearly 600,000 jobs last month underlined the urgency of their vote.

Instead of asking himself what is wrong in his plan and why Senators are not willing to vote massively for it, he accuses them of irresponsibility and blames them for what will be HIS personal failure, if the bill finally fails in Congress.

This is a totally anti-Democratic behaviour : a president has no right to dictate his law to Congress. The executive power and the legislative power are two separate entities : it is precisely the role of the legislative to stop the President and his administration if legislators think the government makes a mistake. And a president has no right to menace a democratically-elected Congress, and even less to insult them as he has insulted them today.

Only a fortnight after his inauguration, Obama is beginning to show America and the world who he is really :
a new dictator.

It now seems obvious that Mister O. is really like our dear French president : he simply cannot stand opposition !

Maybe we'd better remind them that their fellow-citizens made a revolution against the monarchs who were ruling their countries centuries ago and had abused of their power...
Isn't the era of tyrants over ?

They'd better remember that they were elected by the people, not crowned. And the philosophy of Enlightenment has taught us that when the rulers become tyrants, revolution becomes a right... (John Locke)

UPDATE :

COMPROMISE REACHED

Senate Democrats and a handful of moderate Republicans agreed Friday to push a revamped economic recovery plan costing at least $780 billion, after a strong push from the White House ratcheted up pressure on the gridlocked lawmakers.

The new plan, which the Senate isn't expected to vote on until at least Monday, is expected to pass. It slashed an estimated $110 billion from the Democratic-authored bill that's been debated all week.
