Hasn't everybody been a little too fast in rejoicing over the results of the G20 Summit ?

A success ? Have you said it was a success ?

Eva Joly, the former French Norwegian investigative magistrate and economic crime fighter has recently expressed her deep skepticism in front of the measures derived from the G20 Summit in London.
She has criticized this summit as "a pure exercise of communication". Her judgement is shared by most specialists, even if the MSM has done its best to present the summit as a big success.

Anyway, Eva Joly, who has a perfect knowledge of financial corruption, tax havens and the issue of money laundering, is not a fan of Mister O., judging from this article published in the French news magazine Le Nouvel Observateur on April 8th :

Obama and money laundering

The crime-fighting Norwegian special adviser and former Paris-based investigating magistrate - the woman who broke open the "Elf Affair", Europe's biggest corruption investigation since the Second World War, has written a new book, Des héros ordinaires (Ordinary Heroes).

In her judicial investigations which helped bring down some of Europe's most powerful and influential figures, she was routinely thwarted by tax havens, and has been one of the world's most outspoken critics of the offshore system for years. In her new book, she describes the fight against tax havens in terms of a "new Berlin Wall."

And apparently, Eva Joly is no Obamaniac.
She has not been impressed by what the American president has said about the necessity to refound the financial system. She does not believe his promises.

Obama's supports

In her new book  « Des héros ordinaires » (Ordinary Heroes), Eva Joly first recognizes that Obama was one of the three Senators who wrote the Tax Haven Abuse Act.

But the former judge has no illusions, because she knows that Obama's campaign was financed by many banks and multinationals.
She explains :« The biggest contributors to his campaign are called  Goldman Sachs (an international financial services firm), UBS (a Swiss bank involved in many scandals)  JP Morgan Chase (another financial services company), and Citigrou (one of the favourite banks of African dictators)."

According to Eva Joly, "the people who supported Obama  would have a lot to lose if there were more transparency."

The former French judge has read what Obama has himself written in one of his best-selling books.

One extract from his campaign autobiography, The Audacity of Hope, has particularly shocked her.
He describes his Senate campaign in 2004 with a pseudo candor : “Increasingly I found myself spending time with people of means—law firm partners and investment bankers, hedge fund managers, and venture capitalists. As a rule, they were smart, interesting people, knowledgeable about public policy, liberal in their politics, expecting nothing more than a hearing of their opinions in exchange for their checks.”

Eva Joly is really irritated when she reads this passage !
"This is an idyllic vision of the financial world, which does not incite me to feel optimistic."
But she also warns Obama : "The new American president should beware of these people, for their interests are at stake."

Washington Post, recently published a very interesting article on the subject.
It revealed that the Obama administration is engineering its new bailout initiatives in a way that it believes will allow firms benefiting from the programs to avoid restrictions imposed by Congress.
The White House has set up special entities that act as middlemen, channeling the bailout funds to the firms and, via this two-step process, stripping away the requirement that the restrictions be imposed,.  is using middlemen to bail out the American companies which are hit by the crisis, in order to avoid respecting the rules imposed by Congress.

To put it in a nutshell :
Publicly, Barack Obama severely criticizes tax havens and off-shore companies. But, in reality, he knows how to take advantage of them.
So Eva Joly is right.

In other words, the president of change himself belongs to this rotten politico-financial system which is at the origin of the world's financial and economic crisis.

So please, Mister Obama, stop giving lessons to the world !
